Tourist VAT refund — what's actually eligible

Saudi Arabia runs a Tax Refund for Tourists Scheme (TRS) since 2018. Tourists can claim back the 15% VAT on most retail goods. Most tourists either don't know or don't bother. This tool tells you exactly what's eligible, what the minimum spend is, and how the airport kiosk works.

Calculate what you can claim

The 5-step airport refund process

1
Shop

At a Tax-Free shop (look for the TRS sticker).

2
Get receipt

Ask for the original tax invoice (not credit card slip).

3
Validate

Visit a TRS desk (at airport before security) to validate receipts.

4
Refund

At TRS kiosk, choose refund method (cash, card, wallet).

5
Customs

Show goods if customs requests; valid receipt is your proof.
